Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is an evidence-based approach to treating anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety, separation anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.  It has also been demonstrated to be effective in treating depression. CBT helps children and teens analyze and reduce negative thoughts that lead to unhelpful thinking and behavior in order to promote more positive thoughts and experiences.

Acceptance and Committment Therapy

Acceptance and Committment Therapy (ACT) is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps children focus on the present anf accept thoughts and feelings without judging or evaluating them. The goal is to help children move past difficult emotions to put their energy and efforts on positive healing instead of dwelling on negative feelings. ACT encourages learning coping strategies that are tailored to a child’s situation and can help them better manage challenging experiences. Children are taught strategies to help them accept situations as they occur without attempting to judge or try to change them. ACT uses mindfulness strategies to help children become more compassionate toward themself and others. By doing so, children can also free themselves from obsessing on negative thoughts so they can begin to heal and find peace.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT is an evidence-based approach used to treat mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD, and anxiety.  It has also been demonstrated to be effective in treating depression, self-harm, and suicidal ideations. DBT involves helping children and adolescents who have difficulty controlling their emotions and behavior. DBT helps children and teens learn to regulate their emotions by learning about triggers that lead to negative reactions and help them use strategies such as distress tolerance, acceptance, and mindful awareness to promote postive thoughts and experiences.

Cognitive Processing Therapy

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a specific type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy used to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  This evidence-based approach involves working through one’s traumatic experience in order to examine and change negative thoughts. CPT emphasizes the connections between thoughts, feelings, behavior and bodily sensations.  The focus is on identifying how traumatic experiences change thoughts and beliefs, and how thoughts influence current feelings and behaviors, in an effort to reduce distress about memories of the trauma and improve daily living.
