About Janet Arcediano

Janet is a Licensed Master Social Worker with nearly two decades of experience supporting children and families across developmental stages, from infancy through adolescence. She earned her Master’s in Social Work from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, and completed a clinical internship at The Child Center of NY in their Early Childhood Mental Health Program.

Janet specializes in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), a modality she deeply values for its alignment with how children naturally express themselves. She has extensive experience with infant mental health, early childhood emotional development, and adolescent challenges. Janet is also trained in Circle of Security Parenting and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which she incorporates when appropriate to support family dynamics or trauma- informed care. She is currently in the process of becoming certified in Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), further expanding her work with caregivers and young children.

With warmth, intuition, and deep presence, Janet is passionate about creating a safe and nurturing space where children can heal, grow, and build emotional resilience. Her mission is to support children in becoming emotionally attuned, empowered adults who thrive.

Outside the therapy room, Janet loves singing, writing, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones.

Training & Techniques

Tap on one of the tabs below to learn more about the training and certification.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is an evidence-based approach to treating anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety, separation anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.  It has also been demonstrated to be effective in treating depression. CBT helps children and teens analyze and reduce negative thoughts that lead to unhelpful thinking and behavior in order to promote more positive thoughts and experiences.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TF-CBT is an evidence-based approach to treating trauma-related difficulties including PTSD, by addressing  negative thoughts that the child or adolescent experiences. TF-CBT  helps children alter innacurate beliefs that lead to unhealthy behaviors and identify healtier ways to respond to situations. Parents also participate in this approach to learn how to communicate around sensitive topics and help their child manage stress. Both the child and parent are integral to the success of TF-CBT to help the child manage stress and learn positive coping strategies.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is an evidence-based approach used to help children who struggle to express themselves. It can be used to treat children and adolescents on the autism spectrum, as well as those experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and physical or learning disabilities. Play therapy can also help children with difficulty socializing or experiencing trouble at school. Using toys and other tools, children learn to express their thoughts and emotions in a way that fosters more positive experiences.

Circle of Security Parenting

Circle of Security Parenting is an attachment based parenting education program to help parents improve and better understand their relationships with their children. Parents learn skills to better understand their child’s emotional needs, support their child with emotional regulation, help their child enhance their self esteem, and support them with developing secure attachments.
