Tyra is a Licensed Master Social Worker who received her Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University’s School of Social Service. Throughout her career, she has worked with children and families in various school, clinical and residential settings. Tyra has extensive experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum and those diagnosed with A.D.H.D.
Tyra is currently working towards completing a post-graduate certificate in child and adolescent mental health from Rutgers University with plans to pursue her Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) in the Fall of 2021. Tyra has also received additional training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for those experiencing anxiety, trauma and depression. Tyra is always seeking to expand her knowledge and frequently attends continuing education trainings and seminars to stay abreast of the newest information and best practices within the field. Tyra integrates DBT and CBT into sessions with the goal of creating a solution-focused approach to therapy that identifies and fosters the client’s existing strengths while leveraging them to help move forward in life. Tyra enjoys working with families and helping them to reach optimal mental health and wellbeing.
Outside of Courageous Kids Counseling, Tyra enjoys reading, exploring the Hudson Valley and spending time with her partner and golden retriever, Alice.
